Ask a lot of HR professionals for assistance and they’ll say, ‘No. That can’t be done.’

Not me. I’ve always been a ‘do-er’ and will approach any problem with a positive mindset. It was this can-do attitude that enabled me to grow from a recruitment advisor in Asda in 1990 to Head of HR at Starbucks, to winning an award for Best People Manager at B&Q, to later becoming UK Retail HR Director for Gap Inc.

Having achieved more than I could have imagined during those years working for household-name brands, the logical next step for me was to create a business of my own.

In 2007, I established HR Made Easy so I could take the invaluable knowledge and experience gained in-house and apply it to small-to medium- sized businesses across the UK.

Back when I was working at B&Q, as Internal Communication and Engagement Manager, I helped take the company’s Gallup Employee Engagement Score from 3.6 to 4.8, the best score within Gallup at the time.

And in 2017, we launched our own app called Emotie, which enables companies to stay emotionally connected by empowering staff to express their feelings in real time. Inspired by Dave Brailsford’s marginal gains theory, the app is helping companies across the country increase employee engagement. You can read more about Emotie on its dedicated website.
